This brought about a new set of challenges. Being on blood thinners, especially Warfarin, requires strict monitoring of my blood levels because any imbalance can cause serious complications. I also had to stop consuming any food rich in Vitamin K, such as leafy greens, which could interfere with the medication. Despite these adjustments, it was difficult to maintain consistent blood levels. The worst part came during my menstrual periods. The combination of blood thinners and my natural cycle led to extremely heavy bleeding.
For almost a year, I struggled with uncontrollable bleeding during my periods. I was hospitalized multiple times due to severe blood loss and we had to call 911 and rush to the emergency room on several occasions. The doctors could only give me blood transfusions to restore my hemoglobin levels, but there wasn’t an immediate solution. My periods became a nightmare. My hemoglobin levels would drop drastically and it was a constant battle to stabilize my health. We consulted with numerous gynecologists and after trying various treatment plans, I finally found a solution that worked for me. Today, my blood flow is under control and I’m back to living a more stable life, though I still remain on blood thinners.
During these difficult years, I found myself constantly thinking about others who might be facing similar challenges without the resources or support that I had.
As a woman who has faced her own health challenges, I felt a strong need to support women’s health as well. This led me to start
HERSAFE, a sanitary pad manufacturing company that provides free sanitary pads to women in rural areas of India. Initially, we partnered with other organizations to distribute sanitary products, but I felt the need to do more. HERSAFE now produces and distributes pads on a larger scale, with the goal of reaching even more women who lack access to basic hygiene products.
Throughout this journey, I’ve been incredibly fortunate to meet countless people who were inspired by our mission. Today, I am proud to say that Care and Love Foundation has over 200 dedicated volunteers. These
volunteers have become like family, working alongside us to provide services to the poor and underprivileged. Their commitment and passion have allowed us to extend our reach and make a lasting impact on the lives of those in need.
I am deeply grateful for the support of my family, friends and the amazing team of volunteers who have joined me in this mission. Through Care and Love Foundation both in the US and India I will continue to fulfill the promise I made to myself in 2011, helping those who cannot help themselves.
Life is challenging, but we must strive to make it meaningful. The path I have chosen to help those in need gives me immense pleasure and I will continue to do my best to create an even greater impact for the betterment of society.
Despite all the challenges I’ve faced, I still find joy in the simple things singing, dancing and spending time with the people I love. Life may not always be easy, but it has been incredibly fulfilling.
